Jacob Elordi was the star guest in London on Thursday night as he touched down for the world premiere of Ridley Scott‘s latest feature “The Dog Stars.”
The actor’s arrival in Leicester Square was immediately soundtracked by the noise of screams from fans, including from a group of girls leaning out of nearby window, who dramatically upped both their volume and pitch when the actor turned to wave at them. The actor also sparked swoons when he walked and posed on the carpet with Rak Jasper, one of three acting dogs who appear in the movie.
Alongside Elordi, “The Dog Stars'” other cast — including Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce — were in attendance at the Odeon Luxe cinema, together with the legendary director himself (who premiered his last movie, “Gladiator 2,” in the same spot less than two years ago).
Speaking to Variety, Elordi described Scott as “the king of movies,” saying that working with him was “such a treat — a dream come true.”
He added: “I don’t think I’ll ever have an experience like that. Yeah. He’s one of a kind and he’s a pioneer of of modern cinema.”
With the casting for James Bond now very much underway and Elordi continuing to have a strong presence among the favorites for the coveted role, Variety also managed to sneak in a question about whether he’d been involved in the auditions. It was a query he, clearly with some experience now under his belt, expertly ducked. “I’m here on holiday,” he said with a smile.
“The Dog Stars,” from Disney’s 20th Century Studios, is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi, directed by Scott from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith and based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel of the same name. The film is set in the aftermath of a devastating flu pandemic that has almost eradicated humanity, and follows a former civilian pilot and hardened ex Marine as they confront outside threats and hold onto the possibility of a better life.
Ironically, Scott had originally eyed his “Gladiator 2” leading man Paul Mescal for the main role, but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts with the Beatles’ biopics, and Elordi stepped in.
Speaking to Empire Magazine before the premiere, Brolin said that he almost quit “The Dog Stars” after just one day due to Scott’s intense filmmaking process. “It bugged me out, and I got really scared,” he said, adding that he called his agent to say “I want out. Something’s really wrong and I’ve got to get the f— out of here.”
However, he said things settled eventually down enough for him to continue, describing Scott’s approach as “stratospherically creative and stratospherically dangerous.”
“The Dog Stars” will release in theaters on Aug. 28.
