President Donald Trump said Monday night that he will no longer use taxpayer funds to pay for a multimillion-dollar pro-Trump ad blitz ahead of the midterm elections, saying his super PAC will now pay for them. 

But he appears to have no plans to reimburse the federal government for funds already used on the ads, a White House official said Tuesday.

“The President’s [social media post] was not referring to reimbursement," the official told ABC News.

While Trump dismissed criticism of the ads as "a rather standard thing to do," he posted Monday that he had decided to pay for them on his own dime.
