The Texas Longhorns have the luxury of not having one but two elite wide receivers at their disposal. Ryan Wingo had a solid 2025 season, posting team highs in receptions (54), receiving yards (834), and touchdowns (7).

The Texas offense didn't meet expectations, and there was a clear desire to seek out improvements through the transfer portal. They added Cam Coleman, the highest-rated wideout in the portal. It was the perfect fit.

Coleman's presence instantly elevates the Longhorns' offense, but it also helps out Wingo.

How Coleman Helps Wingo

Coleman has already stood out during fall camp. He went viral on social media with a sensational one-handed catch. His coach, Steve Sarkisian, compared him to legendary wideout Julio Jones.

However, Wingo could be the largest beneficiary of Coleman's prowess. Defensive coordinators will be scheming up ways to stop the Auburn transfer. He'll receive physical contact in man coverage as they try to disrupt Coleman's route and timing. In zone, they'll have someone blanket Coleman.

But Wingo's versatility creates matchup nightmares. Sarkisian can line him up out wide or in the slot. He'll rarely get the opponent's best cornerback which means Wingo will have the advantage most of the time.

A Bigger Role for Wingo

Wingo understands that drops are a point of emphasis this season. He has to work on that as he shifts into a larger role. Sarkisian has tons of confidence in his star receiver.

"He's a really good player, and we're fortunate to have him to go along with Cam and Emmett [Mosley] and all the guys over there," Sarkisian said in the spring. "So that's just one thing that's shown up to me as Ryan has been coming back into the fold, it's like wow, this guy's really good..."

Sarkisian mentioned that both Coleman and Wingo are used to having safeties cheat over their way, so Wingo will have more room to operate. If he builds off last season's success, the offense should have a much better season.

Ultimately, it's up to Sarkisian and quarterback Arch Manning to maximize the potential of this wide receiver room. This unit is littered with talent. This offense should be able to beat teams in a variety of ways. Now, it's up to Sarkisian to put these guys in the best spots to succeed.

Coleman is a rare commodity. Having Wingo makes life easier for the quarterback. This pairing should have a lot of fun this season.
