Bayside High for life! Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tiffani Thiessen, Mario Lopez and more Saved by the Bell stars have gone on to do great things, but they have also stayed true to their roots.
The sitcom, which aired four seasons from 1989 to 1993, followed a group of teens, including Gosselaar, Thiessen, Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Dustin Diamond and Lark Voorhies, as they navigated the ups and downs of high school.
Several members of the cast subsequently moved on to the spinoff Saved by the Bell: The College Years. They reunited again for the Peacock revival in 2020, but the reprisals almost did not happen.
Lopez and Berkley were confirmed to return when the project was announced in September 2019, while Thiessen exclusively told Us Weekly the following month that she “didn’t know that was happening” at all ahead of the news.
However, the Access Hollywood cohost teased in November 2019 that Thiessen and Gosselaar would make appearances in the revival. “Who says they weren’t included?” he exclusively told Us at the time. “You’ve got to wait and find out.”
Voorhies, for her part, explained during a February 2020 appearance on The Dr. Oz Show that she felt “a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of” the new series. In October 2020, though, news broke that the actress would indeed return as Lisa. She ultimately joined Gosselaar and Thiessen in reprising their roles.
Showrunner Tracey Wigfield then hinted in November 2020 that Diamond could make a future appearance. “We talk about Screech’s character and there are little Easter eggs throughout the show of what he’s doing now, and you can find some if you look for them,” she said on the “TV’s Top 5” podcast. “And this season, he wasn’t tied to any of the new characters or anything. But that’s not to say it’s not open for the future, not knowing what stories will be or anything for a cameo maybe.”
Several months later, news broke that Diamond had cancer. He passed away in February 2021.
Dennis Haskins played Bayside High School’s Principal Richard Belding on both Saved by the Bell and its spinoff The New Class, for a total of 11 years. His spokesperson confirmed to Us that Haskins died at age 75 in September 2026.

It took seven auditions for Dennis Haskins to land the role of Mr. Belding on Good Morning, Miss Bliss, the first incarnation of Saved by the Bell. He was one of four characters brought over when the show moved from the Disney Channel to NBC in 1989.
Haskins later reprised his role as Mr. Belding on Saved by the Bell: The New Class from 1993 to 2000, in addition to having cameos on 1993’s primetime spinoff Saved by the Bell: The College Years and the 1994 TV movie Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas.
His spokesperson confirmed to Us in September 2026 that Haskins died at age 75. A cause of death was not immediately made available.
“It’s a tragic loss,” his rep told Us at the time. “Everyone loved Mr. Belding and those of us who got to know Dennis, loved him even more.”
The statement concluded, “[Dennis] was a great person, and he loved, I mean absolutely LOVED his fans. He always had time for them, no matter what. He was my client and dear friend for over 20 years, and I will miss him terribly. I’m heartbroken.”
The actor has had a slew of memorable TV roles on shows including Franklin & Bash, Mixed-ish, NYPD Blue, Pitch and The Passage.
Gosselaar was married to Lisa Ann Russell — with whom he shares son Michael and daughter Ava — from 1996 to 2011. He wed Catriona McGinn in July 2012; the couple are parents of son Dekker and daughter Lachlyn.
In November 2020, he reprised his role as Zack for two seasons on the Peacock revival of Saved by the Bell.
Thiessen has not only continued to act in projects such as Beverly Hills, 90210, White Collar and Alexa & Katie, but she is also an author and has hosted her own Cooking Channel show, Dinner at Tiffani’s.
She married Brady Smith in July 2005; the pair share daughter Harper and son Holt.
She reprised her role as Kelly in November 2020 on Peacock’s SBTB revival series.
Lopez is known more for his hosting work on Access Hollywood, Extra and the like, but he still acts. He has appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful, Pacific Blue, Nip/Tuck and Grease Live! and often makes cameos in popular shows and films. He is also an author and has starred on Broadway.
The actor was briefly married to Ali Landry in 2004 before having the union annulled. He tied the knot with Courtney Mazza in December 2012. The couple are parents of daughter Gia and sons Dominic and Santino.
In November 2020, he returned as Slater for the Saved by the Bell reunion on Peacock, in which he served as co-creator and producer.
The actress went on to star in Showgirls, The First Wives Club, NYPD Blue, The L Word, CSI: Miami and New Girl. She is also an author.
Berkley wed Greg Lauren in November 2003, and the duo share son Sky.
Berkley co-created and produced the SBTB reunion on Peacock, which premiered in November 2020. She also served as a series regular for the show, reprising her role as Jessie.
Diamond moved on to Saved by the Bell: The New Class, stand-up comedy, reality television and music. He released a tell-all book about Saved by the Bell titled Behind the Bell in 2009, which his former costars claimed was inaccurate. He later alleged the book was compiled by a ghost writer and parts were fabricated.
The actor faced several legal troubles through the years. He was arrested in December 2014 after stabbing a man in a bar fight. He was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct and sentenced in June 2015 to four months in jail. Diamond was taken into custody again in May 2016 for violating his parole but was released from jail two days later.
He tied the knot with Jennifer Misner in 2009, but they later separated.
In January 2021, Diamond was diagnosed with stage IV small-cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of lung cancer. A source told Us at the time that he was in “a lot of pain,” but had his girlfriend by his side. “He received all the well-wishes from his Saved by the Bell costars, and he’s been really happy hearing that stuff,” the source added. “It’s been nice that people have been reaching out.”
Less than a month after he started chemo, a rep for the actor confirmed he died on February 1, 2021. He was 44 years old.
Voorhies appeared on Martin, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives and In the House before stepping out of the spotlight. She opened up in February 2020 about suffering from mental illness on The Dr. Oz Show, noting that she had been diagnosed with schizoaffective thought disorder.
The actress was married to Miguel Coleman from 1996 to 2004 and Jimmy Green for six months in 2015.
Although it was initially reported that Voorhies would not return for the Saved by the Bell revival, she ended up reprising the role in a few episodes of the Peacock series, which premiered in November 2020.
