Ruby Rose hit back at Hayden Panettiere’s estranged mother, Lesley Vogel, speaking out about the Nashville alum’s sudden death at 36.
Rose, 40, took to Threads on Wednesday, August 19, responding to media coverage of Vogel’s statement after the late actress’ death with alleged text screenshots between the pair. (Rose appeared to message with a phone number saved as “Hayden.”)
“… Always struggle to separate from their parents. It’s an unnatural position to be placed in,” Rose allegedly sent Panettiere. “They did not act or behave like mothers, so we are wounded from them, but the idea of a mother is still so powerful to us.”
Without sharing the messages’ context or date, Hayden appeared to reply, allegedly writing, “All of that lands.”
“I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, ‘My god, I’m 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain,’” the text read. “I’m her only child left and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!”
Hayden was the daughter of Vogel, 70, and ex-husband Skip Panettiere, whose son Jansen previously died in 2023 at the age of 28 after an undiagnosed heart condition. Skip confirmed via a rep that Hayden died on Sunday, August 16.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” Skip wrote in a statement. “We ask for privacy as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”
Vogel, who managed Hayden’s childhood acting career, released her own statement two days later.
“I think it becomes very difficult to be true to yourself and I think Hayden sadly lost her way and I wish it were different,” Vogel told NBC News on Tuesday, August 18. “I wish she had stayed true to herself because she had many incredible attributes.”
Elsewhere in her Threads mentions, Rose detailed her friendship with the Ice Princess star.
“Our group of friends consists of 14 women. And I haven’t even met her other wonderful friend groups,” Rose mused on Wednesday. “Hayden was so VERY VERY LOVED. And was an INCREDIBLE FRIEND, to all of us. We were so lucky to watch her grow.”
Rose further revealed that she and Hayden had plans to collaborate down the line.
“H and I were working on something else. A comedy based around how we met, and how we healed our trauma,” the Batwoman alum claimed. “But neither of us wanted to give it to Hollywood.”
