Women's professional wrestling is as popular as it is today because of the singles match that took place in 2015 Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, and Bayley.

The infamous bout took place at the Barclays Center in New York during the first-ever NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn event. Mone was the heel champion and Bayley the underdog challenger. The two had a classic match that saw Bayley pin Mone to win the championship. The match forever changed how WWE viewed its women's roster and ushered in the WWE Women's Revolution.

It's been a decade since that match in Brooklyn. The stars just might be aligning for another rematch. Mone and Bayley have tangled numerous times since TakeOver in Brooklyn and have won tag team gold together, but only in a WWE ring.

There's still a chance Mercedes Mone vs Bayley happens in an AEW ring

In a new interview with Daily Star, Mone fanned the flames of another match with Bayley. Mone called Bayley her pro wrestling best friend and said that the rematch would always be on the table.

“You never know in wrestling,” Mone said. “That’s always a dream match for me. To have another match with her (Bayley). She is one of my greatest opponents of all time. Of course, everybody knows one of our greatest matches together. NXT TakeOver in Brooklyn. That really changed the way people viewed women’s wrestling. But, yeah, it’s always a dream match for me. So, you never know.”

Earlier this summer, Mone set the internet ablaze when she shared fan art depicting a match graphic that featured Mone against Davina Rose, which was Bayley's independent wrestling name. The graphic teased the match for AEW WrestleDream this year.

Bayley's WWE contract status has been a hot topic in the news over the last few months. Her contract reportedly is up near the end of 2026. She's been absent from WWE television since losing to Lyra Valkyria at the last edition of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event in July.

As for Mone, she has a massive week ahead of her. She is scheduled to face Willow Nightingale for the AEW Women's World Championship at the All In PPV event next weekend inside Wembley Stadium in London. Mone earned the shot at that title by winning this year's Owen Hart Cup Tournament. Mone won the same tournament last year, but lost her All In title match to Toni Storm.
