Oct. 31 is nearly here — which means plenty of spooky decor, creepy costumes and tricks around every corner. But there’s another part of the equation that doesn’t get quite as much attention: the treats.

To put it into perspective, the average child in the U.S. put down about 3 cups of candy on Halloween, according to data from the Coupon Fellow. That translates to roughly 384 grams of sugar, which is almost 16 times the maximum daily recommendation from the American Heart Association. 

In other words, the Halloween sugar surge is real — and there could be consequences.
