Nick Chubb is calling it quits.
The former Browns star announced his NFL retirement on Instagram on Friday.
“Today’s the day I’ve been avoiding for a while,” Chubb wrote on the platform. “Twelve year old me could never imagine this day, and 30 year old me is wondering where all the time has gone. I’ve known for some time now, but I’m finally ready to share that I’m done playing football. I wanted to end my career on a healthy note, along with a winning season, and I was able to do that.”
Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb (24) runs with the ball in the fourth quarter on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at MetLife Stadium. Charles Wenzelberg/New York PostChubb, 30, was one of the top running backs in football immediately after being drafted by Cleveland in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, rushing for at least eight touchdowns in each of his first five seasons and making four Pro Bowls.
In 2022, Chubb had the best season of his career, running for a career-high 1,525 yards and scoring 13 total touchdowns.
But his career took a turn early on in 2023 when he tore his MCL and damaged his ACL during Week 2, causing him to miss the rest of the season.
He would later break his foot in December 2024.
Chubb wasn’t the same player after returning from the injuries, having run for six touchdowns and 838 yards across 23 games for the Browns and Texans since then.

“…I say this to all my brothers still on the field, still in the heat of it,” he continued. “There’s a life waiting for you after football, too. And health is the real wealth.
“I end my career in a great place. Even though there are some things I wish had happened differently, I can say that I have no regrets.”
