National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy heads to a lectern for a press conference on rail safety at Chicago's Union Station on Sept. 21, 2026.

Personnel is policy — which is why the latest coup attempt from the Democratic Socialists of America could put millions of lives in danger.
The DSA is launching a public pressure campaign that’s meant to throw a scare into Senate Democrats, The Post reported this week.
Its target: Jennifer Homendy, the registered Democrat chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, whose term ends in August 2027.
Per an October meeting of the party’s election commissars, Homendy’s crimes are many.
She “never blamed Trump” for the tragic Washington, DC, midair collision of a jet and military helicopter near Reagan National Airport in January 2025.
She (gasp!) stood next to Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan at an aviation safety summit in Alaska.
Worst of all, they charged, she’s maintained generally friendly relations across the political aisle.
Never mind that Homendy is the only Dem agency head in the Trump administration, so bipartisanship is a must.
Against the wall, Comrade Homendy — by order of the General Secretary!
The NTSB is a pure bipartisan technocracy.
It investigates civil aviation disasters, some highway crashes, maritime sinkings and the like, finds their causes and recommends measures to prevent them from happening again.
It also studies drug and alcohol abuse among pilots, truckers and other workers in sensitive transport industries — and holds giant corporations like Boeing accountable when their transport products fail, as in the 2024 door blowout of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, a colossal near-tragedy.
Politicizing this agency means endangering everyone who travels America’s skies, roads and waterways.
And putsching competent members who fail to meet a purity test is the worst sort of politicization.
Especially when the purity tests are as ideological and vapid as the ones the modern DSA applies, which have much more to do with woke hygiene than any policy substance.

These rumors of Kremlin-gremlin war on Homendy have rightly riled Dem insiders on Capitol Hill.
“If the NTSB became political in any direction, that would be the end of aviation and transportation safety in the US,” one of them told The Post anonymously.
Note that this Dem is so frightened of the DSA that he or she wouldn’t be quoted by name — a testament to how much power a motivated, relentless political faction can wield.
We’ve already seen how disastrous subordinating expertise to ideology can be in the NTSB’s own domain: Consider the woke erosion of standards for air-traffic controllers.
More than 1,000 graduates of the Federal Aviation Administration’s training program, per an ongoing lawsuit, were booted out of the potential hiring pool after the agency in 2014 put a “biographical assessment” in place — that is, a screen effectively based on race.
Now America faces a “gaping hole,” with the vital industry short of close to 4,000 qualified controllers.
Did that play a role in the very collision the DSA kids are using as a club against Homendy?
The control tower overseeing the Reagan National airspace was horrifically understaffed.
Recall too that the Biden administration, in one of the most anti-science government actions in American history, instructed its agencies to take “indigenous knowledge” — various folk traditions from a wide array of Native American peoples and nations, heedlessly lumped together — into account when making decisions on environmental and other policies.
Paying such traditions cultural respect is fine, but they should no more inform federal decision-making than the old Icelandic superstition that moving to a new house on a rainy day will bring prosperity.
Again, Homendy’s term as chair isn’t up until late in 2027.
The point of any attack on her is to force the wider Democratic Party to accommodate the preferred DSA species of NTSB member down the road: one that’s viciously ideological and willing to break eggs.
Worse, as the anonymous Dem put it, “I suspect this DSA effort of trying to ‘out’ Democrats who have relationships with Republicans will expand in 2027.”
Yes, game-playing with the spoils of any administration is an American tradition, and it’s not only a leftist problem.
Within President Donald Trump’s current administration, recall the disaster of Kristi Noem, who got her Department of Homeland Security gig due to political clout, not because she had the competence to do the job.
“Politics ain’t bean-bag,” as Mr. Dooley once said; “The strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must,” as Dooley’s intellectual predecessor Thucydides expressed it.
But stacking the NTSB with political officers means playing games with the lives of every American who flies or drives — and shows just how high the stakes are when it comes to sending the commie kids to Congress.
