Billy had a fascinating yet heartbreaking upbringing as detailed in his 2007 memoir, One Wave at a Time. When he was 16, his parents and sister died in a plane crash. At 26, he met and married Ami in Texas. Together, they moved to Alaska to raise their family of seven kids.
In February 2021, Billy died from a seizure at the age of 68.
Ami married Billy when she was 15 and he was 16. The pair went on to welcome seven children.
In 2017, Ami was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer. The family then moved from rural Alaska to the North Cascade Mountains in Washington so she could receive chemotherapy treatment. She was cancer-free in 2018.
Matt was the oldest child of Billy and Ami. He exited Alaskan Bush People in 2019 citing personal struggles, including substance abuse issues. He continued to share his adventures in nature on his social media pages.
In May 2026, Matt's brother Bear expressed concern for Matt amid a police search. Days later, Bear confirmed Matt’s death at age 43 as the search concluded.
“They found a body in the river a few hours ago and it was positively identified as being Matt,” he said.
Bear added, “I would ask people to please, please be respectful to my family and to my mom. Please watch the comments that you leave, guys. Sometimes words can hurt more than fists can … In one of [Matt’s] last videos, he was talking about how negative people were on his posts. You guys should keep in mind that people on the other side of your screen, people you are watching a video of, are real people too.”
Bear is the third child of Billy and Ami. He began dating Raiven Brown after meeting her at brother Noah’s wedding in April 2018. Despite going through multiple splits during their relationship, Bear and Raiven welcomed son River in March 2020 followed by Cove and Everest in January 2023 and 2024, respectively. The pair tied the knot in January 2022 before announcing their decision to divorce in April 2025.
“Bear and I have seperated and we have decided to go our separate ways after years of trying we have decided that it’s better to coparent and find happiness,” Raiven wrote via Instagram. “We are friends and we have love for one another. But unfortunately it’s just not been a possible outcome to work things out with one another.”
Gabe is Billy and Ami’s fourth child. Gabe married wife Raquell “Rose” Pantilla in January 2019 and welcomed their first child, daughter Sophia, that December followed by baby No. 2 in October 2021. Raquell gave birth to their third baby in September 2025.
News broke in July 2026 that Gabe and Raquell had separated after seven years of marriage. Us exclusively confirmed two months later that Raquell had filed for divorce, stating that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.” According to the filing, the pair began living separately in April 2026.
Noah is the youngest of Billy and Ami’s five sons. He married wife Rhain Alisha in August 2018. The twosome welcomed son Elijah in 2019 followed by son Adam in October 2021 before calling it quits in January 2025.
“We just wanted you to hear this from us, instead of from somewhere else,” Noah said in a TikTok video. “Rhain and I have decided it is in our best interests to separate. We are going to take a break for a while and we are no longer together.”
Us exclusively confirmed in September 2026 that Rhain was granted a temporary civil protection order against Noah after accusing him of years of alleged physical and sexual abuse, psychological manipulation and coercive control during their marriage.
Noah slammed Rhain’s claims in a court response filed the same month, stating, "I categorically deny the allegations."
Bird is the second youngest child of Ami and Billy. Following the show, she now runs an Etsy shop, SnowBirdCrafts, where she sells hand-crafted earrings, candleholders and more.
In 2022, Bird faced a significant health challenge when doctors discovered two precancerous tumors on her ovaries — one weighing eight pounds. She had to undergo emergency surgery to remove them. Bird is healthy now and continues to have regular blood work done and tests to ensure the tumors don’t return.
“They thought I had endometriosis but it turns out it was not endometriosis,” she shared via Instagram in October 2023.
Rain, the youngest of Ami and Billy’s children, was 11 years old when the series began filming. She began dating Josiah Lorton in December 2023. Rain confirmed she married Lorton in a January Instagram post.
“Baby, this is our world now 😘😎 yes. I’m married, y’all,” she wrote alongside a picture of the duo.
In April 2025, according to court documents viewed by Us Weekly, Rain and Lorton were arrested and booked into the Okanogan County jail in Washington State. Rain was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree malicious mischief and second-degree criminal trespass while Lorton was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree malicious mischief.
A couple weeks later, Rain broke her silence on her arrest.
“It hurts my heart that my rainbows would choose to believe the lies that my old manager who stole $43,000 from me and abused me instead of maybe thinking ‘oh no who is saying this about Rain?’ not ‘wow what a waste,’” she claimed via Instagram in April 2025. “It deeply hurts my heart. With all this said I hope y’all will stick around to hear my side of the story. God bless y’all.
