ABC has ordered a drama pilot that is based on the popular BBC One series “Ludwig,” Variety has learned.

The pilot, which marks ABC’s first of this year, hails from co-writers Megan Ganz and Humphrey Ker, who are also executive producers. Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz also executive produce along with Kenton Allen of Big Talk, “Ludwig” creator Mark Brotherhood, and “Ludwig” star David Mitchell. 20th Television, where Ganz is under an overall deal, is the studio.

The logline for the show states, “After his homicide detective twin brother goes missing, Mark, a reclusive puzzle writer known as ‘Rabbit,’ is pulled from his solitary life and thrust into the Cambridge, MA police department, where he poses as his brother to investigate his mysterious disappearance. But soon, Mark discovers that his uncanny ability to solve impossible puzzles makes him an unlikely crime-solving sensation.”

“Ludwig” originally debuted on BBC One in 2024, with its second season airing in 2026. A third season is currently in the works, as is a Christmas special. Along with Mitchell, the show also stars Anna Maxwell Martin as Lucy.

Ganz has previously written for shows like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Mythic Quest,” “Modern Family,” “Community,” and “The Last Man on Earth.” Ker also wrote for “Mythic Quest” and for “Saturday Night Live UK.” As an actor, he has appeared in “Mythic Quest” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” as well as shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “American Auto.” He has also appeared in the FX docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham.”

Steinberg is the co-creator, executive producer, and showrunner on the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Shotz is also an EP on that series. They are also known for series like “The Old Man” at FX and “Black Sails” at Starz.

Ganzi is repped by WME. Ker is repped by 42. Steinberg, Shotz, and Allen are repped by WME.
